Description: This session will look at the essentials in culturing procedures that unravels the mystery behind flora vs. pathogens. We will look at susceptibility testing practices and why updated breakpoints matter, and we will see how this all ties back to specimen collection.


At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

  • Summarize key differences in pathogens versus normal flora and how these differences applies to different body sites.

  • Examine why susceptibility testing is performed and how updated breakpoints make an impact for patient care.

  • Explain an overview of the impacts of specimen collection on the quality of the lab result.
