At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe current technologies that rapidly identify common pathogens, antimicrobial resistance markers of importance, and phenotypic results directly from clinical specimens.

  • Discuss advantages and limitations of rapid molecular and fast antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) systems and current gaps in evidence.

  • Summarize the evidence demonstrating improved antimicrobial stewardship metrics and key patient outcomes through case-based examples and review of recent literature.
