Description: This session will highlight the key components of effective microbiology lab reports, enhance result interpretation from commonly reported laboratory assays, and emphasize how to distinguish colonization from infection to help laboratory professionals, pharmacists, and physicians collaborate to utilize microbiology laboratory results to guide patient therapy. At the end of the session, the participant will be able to:
Create and interpret effective microbiology laboratory reports.
Differentiate colonization from infection for bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
Determine how the difference between colonization and infection can guide therapeutic decision making.
