Antimicrobial Resistance and the Food Supply

I'm sure those of us in any kind of healthcare have answered the same question 20 times this week: how does E. coli get into carrots? I don't know the specifics of this one, but there are a variety of ways that our food comes into contact with potentially pathogenic bacteria. The WHO lists enterobacterales, like E. coli, as pathogens of most concern because they are found everywhere and can carry some pretty nasty resistance factors. To my knowledge, this particular outbreak wasn't ESBL or CRE, but it's possible that future cases could be. We're all connected! It takes all of us. #arstewardship #USAAW2024
